Gallery Refresh
Client: Pontefract Museum / Wakefield Museums & Castles
Pontefract Museum tells the story of Pontefract and its people, revealing the area's outstanding history and bringing to life an exciting and often surprising past. Charting the history of Pontefract and the people that have lived, worked and played here.
As part of a phased gallery refresh, Inchpunch Design was appointed to create all the required graphic elements including wall vinyls, interpretation panels, case backdrops, object labels and even a 3.6m high replica of the Market Hall structure complete with a child friendly interactive fruit & veg stall!
The gallery space covers the entire first floor of the museum which is divided into several exhibitions, each with its own visual style and identity. The highlight of the retro area is the "Retro Wall" display which features 20 floating acrylic cubes. Each cube contains and iconic household object or toy from a particular decade between 1950 and 1990.

Market Hall and Buttercross Structures
One of the biggest challenges faced was the creation of the large scale Market Hall and Buttercross structures. Working closely with the in-house fabrication team, we adapted the supplied illustration (by Liz Kay) to fit our bespoke cutting guides. The building shapes were then fabricated from MDF, graphics mounted in sections and erected within the museum space. The arch entrance allows access to the internal children's "market themed" play area complete with a fully stocked fruit and vegetable stall.
